Balance and history

Read your private balance, see what you earned from fees, shield your public NOIR and follow your history.

After you turn on privacy, the app finds your notes and shows what they are worth. All of it is computed in your browser from encrypted data on the chain.

Private balance

Your private balance is the value, right now, of all your unspent notes. Notes hold vault shares, so the figure is their shares at the current share value. It can grow without any transaction of yours: each harvest buys NOIR with the trading fees and adds it to the vault. See The vault.

The app reads your notes when privacy turns on, after each action, and when you press the refresh button.

Hide and show

Private figures are hidden by default. Press Show (the eye icon on a phone) to see them, and Hide to cover them again. The choice applies to every screen: balance, earnings, available amounts in the forms, and history.

While hidden, each figure is replaced by a fixed, blurred placeholder such as 00,000.00. The real value is not in the page at all, so neither the blur nor the width of the text gives away how much you hold. This protects you from someone looking at your screen or a screen recording.

Earned from fees

Under the balance, Earned from fees shows how much your current notes gained from harvested trading fees since you got them:

earned = value of your notes now - value of the same notes when each was created

Each note is valued at the vault's share value at the moment it was created, and again at today's share value. On a desktop the app also shows the gain as a percentage of the starting value.

The figure only covers the notes you hold now. When you spend a note, its change becomes a new note, whose starting value is counted from that moment.

Public NOIR

If your connected address holds NOIR in the ordinary way, for example NOIR bought on another app or unshielded to your own address, the app shows a notice: "NOIR are public". This NOIR sits in your wallet like any token: anyone can see it, and it earns nothing until you shield it.

Choose the amount

The notice suggests all of your public NOIR. Type a smaller amount or use the slider to shield part of it.

Press Shield and confirm

The first time, your wallet asks you to approve the vault to take the amount, then to confirm the shield itself: two normal transactions from your address, paid in ETH. The NOIR moves into a new private note, and the notice disappears once no public NOIR is left.

The shield itself is public: it shows your address and the amount. See Shield public NOIR and Public NOIR.

History

History lists what happened to your notes, newest first and grouped by day. Each row links to the transaction on the explorer.

KindMeaning
BoughtA purchase through the app, which landed straight in a note
ShieldedPublic NOIR from your wallet moved into a note
ReceivedA private transfer from someone else
SentA private transfer you made
SoldNotes you sold for ETH
Sale not filledA sale whose swap did not go through: the NOIR went to the ETH recipient as public NOIR
UnshieldedNotes you moved out as public NOIR
  • Rebuilt on your device. The app builds history from your own notes and the public events that spend them. No server is asked for your history, and nobody else can build it.
  • Valued at the time. Each amount is the value of the shares at that moment, not today's value.
  • Spends include the network fee. For sent, sold, sale not filled and unshielded, the amount is everything that left your notes: what the recipient got plus the network fee.
  • Whom you paid. Sent, sold and unshielded entries show the address they paid, read from your own change note. Only you see it. A sent entry also offers a Proof of payment (see Send).
  • Recent times only. Times are shown for the 30 most recent entries; older ones show without a time.
  • Failures. If an action fails in the current session, a Failed row with the error appears at the top. It is not kept after you reload.

On a phone, the home screen shows the three most recent entries; See all opens the full list.
