Buy NOIR
Buy NOIR with ETH in the noircash app, straight into a private note, or anywhere else as public NOIR that you then shield.
NOIR is an ordinary token launched on Pons. It trades against ETH first on its Pons bonding curve and, once the curve has collected 4.2 ETH, on a Uniswap v4 pool that Pons creates for it (native ETH / NOIR, with Pons' own hook and locked liquidity). This step is called graduation. You can buy on either venue in two ways:
| Where you buy | What you get |
|---|---|
| In the noircash app | NOIR bought and shielded in one transaction: it lands straight in a private note |
| Anywhere else (another app, an aggregator, the Pons site) | Public NOIR in your wallet, which you can shield afterwards |
Buy in the app
You need to have turned on privacy first.
Choose how much ETH to pay
Open Buy, type an amount of ETH or pick a preset (0.001, 0.01 or 0.1 ETH).
Confirm the transaction
Press Buy NOIR and confirm in your wallet. This is a normal transaction from your address, and you pay its gas in ETH.
Wait for the note
The noircash router buys NOIR on the curve, or on the pool after graduation, and shields it into a new note, in the same transaction. When it is confirmed, the app reads your notes again and the purchase appears in History as Bought.
Price protection
Before sending, the app asks the router for a quote, which already includes the Pons fees. The transaction then requires at least the quote less 1% slippage. If the price moves more than that before your transaction runs, it reverts and you keep your ETH (you still pay the gas). If a purchase crosses graduation and part of your ETH cannot be spent, the router sends it back to you.
Buy anywhere else
NOIR is a plain ERC-20, so any app or aggregator that routes Pons tokens can sell it to you, before and after graduation. The NOIR arrives in your wallet as public NOIR: anyone can see it, and it earns nothing.
To make it private, open the noircash app and shield it. The wallet shows a notice with your public NOIR and a Shield button. See Shield public NOIR.
There is no automatic shielding. NOIR bought outside the noircash app stays public until you shield it, even if your address has registered a privacy key.
What a purchase reveals
A purchase is paid with public ETH, so it is public.
| Visible to anyone | Private |
|---|---|
| Your address, the ETH you paid and the NOIR you received | Your total private balance |
| Which new note the purchase created, and its shares | When, and whether, that note is spent |
| Where the tokens go next: sends, sales and unshields that spend the note |
The note is recognisable when it is created. Spending it is not: the chain only sees a nullifier that nobody else can compute or link back to that note. The more notes there are, the harder your later moves are to tell apart from anyone else's. See Staying private.
Selling soon after buying, or selling exactly what you bought, makes the two easy to match by amount and timing, especially while there are few holders.
Costs
- Your wallet pays the gas of the purchase in ETH.
- Pons charges 1% of every trade. Of that, 0.7% of the trade goes to the noircash harvester, which turns it into NOIR for private notes, yours included.
